1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Based on 2012 auction prices, Total Car Score ranked the top 10 classic American muscle cars. Leading the pack: the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The rarest Camaro ever produced, the ZL1 came with a 427-cubic-inch aluminum block V8 engine. This top muscle car commands top dollar with a current market value of $425,000.











1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda

Also commanding a $425,000 price tag, the 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda comes in second on the list. This muscle car features a shaker scoop, drawing attention to the car's 425 horsepower hemi engine.















1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Hemi

Back when NASCAR directly influenced car sales, Dodge beefed up its Charger with a Hemi engine and a more aerodynamic body. Today, the Charger Daytona is worth $400,000.













1969 Ford Boss 429 Mustang

Like Dodge, Ford was also focused on NASCAR glory. Its Boss 429 engine was so big, the traditional Mustang body had to be modified to accomodate the extra power. Today, this car has a value of $220,000.


















1968 Ford Mustang GT500KR

A serious hot rod, this Shelby Mustang GT500 KR (standing for "King of the Road") originally sold for $4,472. In an attempt to keep insurance costs low, Shelby quoted the vehicle's engine at 335 horsepower, a figure later determined to be an underestimate. In 2000, a modified model of this classic was featured in the Nicolas Cage film "Gone in Sixty Seconds." Today, the King of the Road goes for $130,000.
